In April 2022, Texas-based True Velocity said it is actively pursuing multiple domestic and international opportunities for advanced arms and ammunition development to benefit military and civilian end-users alike. The global focus on the modernization of small arms and ammunition has been galvanized in recent years by the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program, in which True Velocity and wholly owned subsidiary LoneStar Future Weapons were final contenders.

Chief among those opportunities is the ability to convert currently fielded weapon systems like the M240 belt-fed machine gun, the M134 rotary machine gun, and other weapons initially designed for standard 7.62x51mm ammunition to accommodate True Velocity’s advanced, lightweight 6.8TVCM cartridge, a derivative of the NGSW program. This “switch-barrel” capability enables existing weapon systems to extend their effective range by as much as 50 percent and reduce ammunition weight by more than 30 percent with only a barrel change.

On March 15, the U.S. Army posted a “sources sought” solicitation seeking industry feedback on 6.8mm conversion kits for it’s widely fielded M240B and M240L machine guns, which are traditionally chambered to fire 7.62x51mm ammunition.

“True Velocity stands by the unparalleled quality and accuracy of our world-class products, manufacturing processes, and IP, which through the last 24 months of evaluation in the NGSW program have generated significant interest from American and global defense markets,” said Kevin Boscamp, chairman of True Velocity. “The NGSW program has served as an excellent proving ground for our advanced technology, and we look forward to equipping U.S. and allied forces alike with unprecedented capabilities.”

True Velocity’s proprietary composite-cased 6.8 TVCM ammunition delivers enhanced lethality, increased effective range, and an unmatched reduction in weight. The LoneStar Future Weapons RM277 rifle and automatic rifle offer maximum lethality in a compact, lightweight package capable of stable and accurate automatic fire, long-range effectiveness, and reduced recoil.

Production of a civilian version of the 6.8TVCM cartridge is also underway, and earlier this year True Velocity became the first ammunition manufacturer to receive certification from the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) for a composite-cased cartridge. The 6.8 TVC commercial variant delivers a maximum average pressure of 65,000 psi with a 135-grain bullet at a velocity of 3,000 feet per second and offers significant weight reduction and accuracy advances compared to traditional brass cartridges. LoneStar Future weapons, in partnership with Beretta USA, plans to launch a semi-automatic version of the RM277 rifle – named the “Amicus” – for civilian shooters, and True Velocity is working with more than 50 other commercial manufacturers to develop and market rifles chambered for the 6.8TVC cartridge.

“The Next Generation Squad Weapon program allowed True Velocity and LoneStar Future Weapons to showcase the transformative nature of our technology,” said Craig Etchegoyen, chairman of LoneStar Future Weapons and president of True Velocity. “We see extraordinary opportunity and enthusiasm for our products not only in the domestic and international defense markets, but in the civilian shooting space as well. We are just getting started.”

Lightweight, composite-cased ammunition from True Velocity is currently offered online and at major retail locations across the U.S. including multiple configurations of .308 Winchester, 6.8 TVC, and a soon-to-be introduced .223 Remington cartridge.

Once again, gun-grabbing Illinois politicians are leading the charge in the never-ending campaign to abolish private firearm ownership. This time around, Reps. Robin Kelly (D-2) and Mike Quigley (D-5) have joined forces to sponsor the so-called “Good Neighbor Gun Dealer Act” (H.R. 3569). If signed into law, this bill would authorize the Justice Department to issue “Good Neighbor” certificates to licensed firearm dealers who adhere to a pointless “code of conduct.” Of course, the criteria within the specified code of conduct would not impact violent crime and, like all gun control measures, would serve only to make life difficult for firearm dealers and their law-abiding customers.

One need not read too far into H.R. 3569 to realize that the real intent of the bill is lurking in Section 4, entitled “Disclosure of Firearm Trace Data.” If H.R. 3569 is enacted, the Justice Department would be authorized to publicly release the personal information belonging to untold millions of lawful firearm owners. Such would constitute an unprecedented breach of privacy executed solely for retribution against citizens who dare to own firearms.

“Gun owners aren’t as stupid as Kelly and Quigley think we are,” commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. “This bill is just another in a long line of proposals designed to harass law-abiding gun owners while giving violent criminals a pass. It’s amazing that Kelly and Quigley would think that firearm dealers would place any value on a ‘good neighbor’ certificate. In fact, any gun dealer appearing on a Justice Department ‘good neighbor’ list would be branded as a ‘sellout’ subject to boycott.”

“If Kelly and Quigley really cared about violent crime, they’d spend their valuable time crafting a Good Neighbor Street Gang Act,” continued Pearson. “Such a law would allow Kelly and Quigley to personally award good neighbor certificates to gang bangers who stopped shooting up the streets of Chicago.”

“We don’t expect H.R. 3569 to get far in this Congress,” concluded Pearson. “Nevertheless, we will be encouraging our members to light up the Capitol switchboard with expressions of disapproval of this blatant attack on law-abiding gun owners.”

The ISRA is the state’s leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of lawful Illinois firearm owners.

Ammunition sales were unprecedented in 2014, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for wildlife conservation programs.

The Pittman-Robertson Act, signed by FDR in 1937, reallocated the 11% excise tax on firearms and ammo from the US Treasure to the Secretary of the Interior, who in turn, distributes it to the States based upon a formula that takes into consideration land area and the number of licensed hunters.

In 2014, $814M was collected, a jump from 2013’s record-breaking $812M and triple that of ten years ago. The money will be used to protect wildlife habitats, count animals for population surveys, research wildlife health issues and to purchase and improve land for wildlife management areas.

According to a recent article in the Grand Forks Herald:

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will get a whopping $24.9 million in 2015 based on last year’s gun and ammo sales — that’s the most ever, up from $23.3 million in 2014, more than double the state’s $11.2 million in 2012 and more than more than three times the $7 million the state got in 2006.

“It’s been an absolute boon for habitat programs the last few years. We’re doing more things than we ever could before,” said Tom Landwehr, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

There was a surge in gun and ammo sales in 2008. Experts speculate that gun lovers stocked up because they feared the possible ramifications of a democrat in the Oval Office. Essentially, the ammo hoarders were doing the nature lovers a big solid.

Jim Hodgson, regional chief of wildlife and sport fish restoration for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service stated: “The level of gun and ammunition sales we’ve seen in recent years, which we’ve never had before, has been a real boost to state wildlife agencies and to wildlife habitat and restoration across the country.”

Gun and ammo sales leveled off in 2010 as the democrat fear dissipated, but with Sandy Hook and Obama’s re-election in 2012, we saw revenue from gun and ammo tax double by 2014.

2015 revenues are projected to fall from 2014, but still tower over pre-Obama levels. The first months of 2015 show revenues from the federal tax down $200M from 2014, but still rivalling 2012.

So, next time your wife or husband gives you a hard time about the money you’re spending at the gun store, you can tell them: “I’m doing it for the animals!”

Here in Florida, we spend half the year prepared for disaster. A hurricane the likes of Charlie or Katrina can strike at any time. If you and your family were evacuated due to a natural disaster, would you want to leave your firearms behind?

SB-290 is a bill intended to protect citizens from being disarmed and charged with a crime for carrying a weapon or firearm during a mandatory evacuation ordered by the Governor or local government during a declared state of emergency.

The bill was heard on the senate floor on March 24, 2015, passing 29-10. All Republicans and 3 Democrats voted for the bill. Ten Democrats voted against the bill.

The bill now moves to House in the hands of Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen (R-Ft. Myers) who passed the bill out of the House last year only to have it fail in the Senate.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) just announced its part in the stalling of the Obama Administration’s initial attempt to ban commonly used ammunition for the AR-15, the most popular rifle in America. The announcement that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) will suspend its proposed framework to ban M855 ammunition validates the NRA’s assertion that this effort was nothing more than a political maneuver to bypass Congress and impose gun control on the American people.

“Today’s announcement proves what we have said all along — this was 100% political. President Obama failed to pass gun control through Congress, so he tried to impose his political agenda through executive fiat. But every gun owner in America needs to understand Barack Obama’s hatred of the Second Amendment has not changed,” said Wayne La Pierre, Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association.

Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA criticized the dishonest campaign to ban this common ammunition: “The lies used to justify the ban were shameful. This proposal was never about law enforcement safety—it was about the Obama Administration’s desire to pander to billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his gun control groups.  Since they haven’t been able to ban America’s most popular rifle, they are trying to ban the ammunition instead.”

Since the BATFE announced its plan to ban commonly used ammunition less than a month ago, the NRA rallied its five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country in strong opposition.  In addition, the NRA worked with congressional leaders in both the U.S. House and Senate to oppose this misguided proposal.

“The NRA would like to thank House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and House Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Culberson for leading the fight against this unconstitutional attack on our Second Amendment freedoms,” continued Cox.  “This was a significant victory for our five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country.

“Make no mistake, this fight is not over. We will remain vigilant and continue to fight against President Obama’s attempt to dismantle the Second Amendment,” concluded LaPierre.

Lewis Danielson received this year’s prestigious Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award. His company, Crimson Trace, pioneered the firearm-mounted laser business, and not only introduced the word “Lasergrips” into the shooting sports lexicon, but remains the leader in the field. Others tried and gave up on handgun-mounted lasers, but Danielson saw the potential and persevered in the development of a working model with instinctive activation.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University (which subsequently inducted him into its Engineering Hall of Fame), Danielson worked in the steel industry, then on agricultural machinery before making his way to engineering and prototyping. During the day, Danielson made parts for the aerospace industry; while at night and on the weekends he worked on an idea that would change the firearm industry forever. Crimson Trace was born in 1994, and at his first NRA Annual Meetings, Danielson and one other employee manned a card table. Their modest card table was mobbed.

As the evolution of handgun design progressed, so did Crimson Trace. While the M1911 and Ruger Mk II were ideally suited to Lasergrips, Danielson and his engineers devised ways to put Lasergrips on polymer-frame guns, then invented the innovative Laserguard that clamshells around a pistol’s trigger guard. Crimson Trace is also in the weaponlight business with its Lightguard series, and has products for long guns as well, including the Railmaster Series and MVF-515.
Lewis Danielson is a proud patriot, a man who steadfastly employs American workers and has a strong passion for Second Amendment-protected freedoms.
